Are You Paralyzed by Perfection?

Are you waiting for things to be perfect before you start something? Are you paralyzed by perfection?

I've tried to start a blog more than once.  My life is crazy busy and everything else has just seemed to work its way to the top of the list and the blog posts have just been moving further and further down the priority list.  I think about what I want to write about all the time but then I don't do it.  I had a heart to heart with myself about this recently.  Being busy is always a good excuse to not do something.  Or is it?  We all have priorities in life.  Keeping our families safe, making sure we have money to keep our kids fed and a roof over our heads.  Those are non-negotiables.  But sometimes we get so caught up in those that we forget to look at what we WANT to do.  You know--those things that bring us joy and re-energize us and make us MORE productive doing the Have-Tos.  And sometimes--many times--those are new things that are a little scary to try.  So we put them off and rob ourselves of that joy because well, we're waiting for the perfect time.  Or to have more money.  Or until we've finished "X" first.

I heard someone say recently that if you wait until things are perfect you won't ever do anything.  The concept of "perfect" is not achievable.  It's an illusion.  It's like the horizon.  If you tried to catch up to that line, that exact place where the sun sets under the earth, you couldn't do it.  It's not really a line at all.  We know that yet we keep chasing it.  Why?  It's an excuse to not try.  To not start.  To not be vulnerable. To not fail.  In the wise words of Yoda, "Do or do not.  There is no try."

So am I an expert blogger?  An educated writer?  Everything I've seen about blogging says you should have a single subject and an SEO strategy.  Do I have that? No--none of those.  And you know what?  It's ok.  I want to write because I NEED creativity in my life to be whole.  I love teaching and sharing what I know with others more than anything in the whole world.  I love seeing other people succeed.  That makes me feel successful.  I guess it's the mama in me. So here I am.  I'm putting myself out there and I'm going to write for me.  And hopefully you like it too. So what will I be sharing?  Paint and DIY tips of course.  If you know me at all you know I have LOTS to share!  Simple, quick and yummy recipes.  Life "balance" in our crazy family and family business.  What I'm learning as a small business owner.  I am an eternal optimist. I choose that consciously every day.  I'm also extremely practical and realistic so my writing will reflect that. And I'd love to hear from you!  If there's something I can help with, I'd love to blog about it and share.  Let me know!

I absolutely love your finishes and would love to learn how to do more of them on furniture and decorator items. Do you offer any classes? I'm especially interested in metallic and their various finishes. Thank you!

I am excited to read your writings! Any and all posts on decor, life balance and food will be a winner in my book! I am working toward a minimal yet exciting decor in my home. I love old things, but like to have old things I can use, not just sit on a shelf or in a cabinet. I look forward to your next blog post!
